After the advance screening of Family of Two (A Mother and Son Story), we, along with several entertainment media representatives, chanced upon Pandi, Bulacan Mayor Enrico Roque of Cineko Productions. Intrigued, we prodded him about the possibility of another Sharon Cuneta-Alden Richards project following their collaboration in the Metro Manila Film Festival 2023 entry.

The megastar commended the Cineko team, expressing her desire to collaborate with the film production company once again. Alden Richards also echoed this sentiment, hoping for a potential co-production with his company, Myriad Corporation.

Alden is eagerly anticipating the upcoming ventures of Myriad Corporation, and his schedule for 2024 is already packed. “We have a lot planned for next year,” he shared during his chat with the press at his Thanksgiving party on December 17.

“In addition to concerts, there’s an upcoming international film project. I’ll be filming it in New York, and it’s a foreign production. It’s a trilogy of short films, primarily centered around advocacy for women’s empowerment and rights,” he carried on.

Later that evening, Alden delivered a brief speech before the screening of his film, stating, “This film is close to my heart because it’s a mother-and-son story. You know I lost my mom 15 years ago. So I offer it to her, this film. So with Mama, with Miss Sharon, I was able to relate to those moments… of that I was with my mom. So, sana ganun din ang maramdaman nyo.”

Sharon said in turn, “First of all, I’m here for you forever, Alden. Kahit hindi na tayo nagpepelikula, nandito si Mama. Huwag mong kalilimutan. And I want to dedicate this movie, first of all, to my son Miguel because he’s here tonight, and my daughter Miel. Frankie is arriving tomorrow pa so… and all my kids. And Kiko is here also. So it’s also a movie not just for a mom and a son but also for a parent and the parent’s child.”

Alden delivers a captivating performance as Matty, the loving son who becomes the anchor of his single mother’s world. Alden’s portrayal of a devoted son navigating the delicate balance between pursuing his dreams and ensuring his mother’s happiness adds depth and authenticity to the narrative.

Alden’s on-screen chemistry with Sharon seamlessly brings to life the nuances of a mother-son relationship. His portrayal goes beyond the surface, delving into the complexities of familial ties and the sacrifices made for the ones we love.

While Sharon’s on-screen presence is undoubtedly impactful, it is Alden’s nuanced performance that amplifies the emotional resonance of the “mother and son story.”

As Matty grapples with the decision to follow his own path while considering his mother’s well-being, Alden skillfully conveys the internal conflict and unwavering support that define his character. The audience is drawn into the emotional journey of a son who not only finds love in his own life but also discovers the profound fulfillment that comes from supporting and caring for his mother.

Alden’s performance adds a layer of authenticity to the film’s central message about the importance of mutual support in family and love. Through his nuanced portrayal, Alden elevates the character of Matty, making him relatable and endearing to audiences.

The actor’s commitment to embodying the role of a loving son contributes to the overall success of Family of Two in exploring the intricate layers of relationships and the profound impact of familial bonds.

Family of Two is now available in cinemas nationwide.
