GMA Network (GMA) maintained its nationwide TV ratings dominance in February, that’s according to data ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

From Feb. 1 to 28 (based on overnight data from Feb. 19 to 28), GMA Network remained the viewers’ choice with an average total day people audience share of 41.2 percent in National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM), leading 6.3 points versus top ABS-CBN’s 34.9 percent.

The faces of "24 Oras:" (from left) showbiz anchor Iya Villania and senior news anchors Vicky Morales, Mike Enriquez, and Mel Tiangco.

GMA led across all day parts in NUTAM with primetime fantasy series Encantadia on the top spot. The Alden Richards–Maine Mendoza starrer, Destined To Be Yours, which premiered on Feb. 27, immediately ranked high while Magpakailanman, Alyas Robin Hood, Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho, and primetime newscast 24 Oras also joined them in the list of the network’s highest rating shows.

In Urban Luzon, which accounts for 77 percent of the total urban TV household population in the country, GMA reigned supreme with an average people audience share of 47.3 percent, outranking ABS-CBN’s 29.1 percent.

The Kapuso Network also led across all day parts in the said viewer-rich area, where 24 out of 30 top rating programs were from GMA. Topping the list are primetime programs Encantadia and Destined To Be Yours. Recently launched programs Legally Blind, Saturday comedy-musical show Full House Tonight, and crime documentary drama Case Solved also made it to the list of top programs.

The GMA drama series Hanggang Makita Kang Muli recently premiered in Peru making it the first Kapuso drama to air in Latin America. Acquired by PanAmericana Television SA, the GMA Afternoon Prime series went well on its pilot week with ratings almost twice that of the program it replaced.

Meanwhile, GMA Worldwide Inc. (GWI) Vice President Roxanne J. Barcelona is glad to learn about Peru’s warm reception of the program. “We are proud and happy that the canned version of Hanggang Makita Kang Muli is enjoying a successful run on free TV in Peru. This is a first for GMA in Latin America,” she said.

 Derrick Monasterio and Bea Binene

“A seed has been planted in that part of the world and we hope that it (would) grow(s) and open(s) more doors for GMA’s content. It proves that our stories can travel well across all cultures. ‎A special thank you to Jose Escalante of Latin Media Corp., who helped us make this happen,” Barcelona acknowledged.

Hanggang Makita Kang Muli, which aired in March 2016, is being aired with the title Cautiva or Captive in English. Under the direction of Laurice Guillen, the series features Kapuso artist Bea Binene portraying the challenging role of a feral child who grew up in a dark room isolated from human contact. On-screen partner Derrick Monasterio also stars as her love interest.

Tomorrow, Francine Prieto shares her love story in GMA News TV’s Wagas. Portraying her is Kapuso actress-host Lovely Abella.

One of the hottest sexy stars in her time, Prieto graced the covers of several men’s magazines. She also became a model, a TV personality, and headlined some of Seiko Film’s movies as a sexy actress.

Unknown to many though, Francine’s life was far from perfect. She was the breadwinner in the family and she had to work hard for her mom who had cancer. As fate would have it, her mother’s death coincided with her career’s decline. Francine failed to look after herself. The sexy star eventually gained weight. She also fell into depression that made her gain more weight.

But at that point in her life when she had lost her career and her sexy figure and just when she was starting to believe  no one could possibly fall in love with her anymore—she met Frank (played by Fabio Ide).

Frank is an American biologist and professor Francine met on a blind date. Frank accepted everything about Francine—he didn’t care if she was famous or not, if she was sexy or fat. Frank loved all of Francine and soon the two decided to marry.

Catch this story that proves that everyone has a shot at true love.

Wagas airs every Saturday, 7 p.m. on GMA News TV.
