In the second semester, GMA Network seems even more aggressive premiering two new shows, one for its afternoon and another on primetime, both for the weekend programming.

One show will replace the funny Lip Synch Battle, the Kapuso edition, and the other joins the roster of afternoon shows on Saturdays.

Superstar Duets premieres tonight

Experience entertainment at its finest as GMA Network launches its newest celebrity singing competition Superstar Duets tonight.

Kapuso’s Ultimate Star Jennylyn Mercado hosts ‘Superstar Duets,’ a one-of-a-kind comedy talent show featuring celebrity contestants

A first in the Philippines, Superstar Duets will surely give Kapuso viewers an extraordinary and more enjoyable TV viewing experience as it showcases one-of-a-kind duet performances from 8 Filipino celebrities and surprise international superstars every Saturday night.

All set to host this program is Ultimate Star Jennylyn Mercado while the panel of judges is made up of comedian/TV host Allan K, Traffic Diva Aicelle Santos and Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista.

Jennylyn said she couldn’t contain her excitement not only to be part of an exceptional comedy- talent show but also to witness how the contestants will execute their performances.

“I’m really excited and looking forward to this show.  I know it’s going to be fun kasi singing contest siya na celebrities ang contestants. Aabangan ko kung paano gagawin ng mga contenders yung performances nila plus yung superstars na makaka-duet nila ay magagaling talaga,” the award-winning actress shared.

Teamwork is what Allan K looks for every time he will be judging the contestants. “When you’re in a duet, you’re in a team. So, ang hinahanap ko ay marunong dapat makipag-blend sa boses ng kanyang ka-duet, marunong makipag-interact sa kanyang ka-duet. Hindi siya nagsosolo. Ayoko na nagdu-duet mag-isa. Dapat isipin niya may kasama siya because it’s a team.”

‘Superstar Duets’ celebrity contestants Pekto, Joross, Gamboa
and Denise Barbacena

As a singer himself, Christian said it is important that the contestants will make a connection with him in their performances. “I know these artists are going to do everything they can, kaya kung magko-connect yung performance nila sa akin, kung yung puso ko and my being ay mamo-move at matatawa at mag-eenjoy, dun ako. Sa kanya ako.”

On the other hand, Aicelle defines the show as a combination of entertainment and talent so it is an imperative that the contestants should always remember the blending of the two. “Ang Superstar Duets bukod sa kantahan ay very entertaining din. So I think it’s a mix of the two. Syempre yung coherence ng contestants at yung foreign superstar dapat sabay silang dadalhin to the next level sa bawat performance nila.”

Competing to become the first Superstar Duets champion are the witty and funny celebrities Mike “Pekto” Nacua, Joross Gamboa, Jerald Napoles, Rita Daniela, Denise Barbacena, Nar Cabico, Divine Grace, and Osang.

Under the helm of director Bert de Leon, Superstar Duets airs every Saturday night beginning after Magpakailanman on  #LIKE Tagisan ng Internet Sensations

#LIKE. Tom Rodriguez and child sensation Balang team up in a new reality show that will visit different barangays in the metro

Meanwhile, this afternoon, after the Saturday edition of Eat Bulaga, GMA’s newest talent reality competition airs the pilot episode of #LIKE! Tagisan ng Internet Sensations.

You’ve seen them on your social media feeds—the new breed of online celebrities worth millions in views, comments, shares and likes! You followed their hip dance craze—and admit it, probably attempted a video of your own—and laughed at their witty memes. You admired their looks, their talents and clicked on their posts over and over again. And now, get to see them in a one-of-a-kind street battle. In a showdown between viral superstars, who will the crowd LIKE the most?

Jerald Napoles

GMA Network premieres the newest talent reality show hosted by “crush at like ng bayan” Tom Rodriguez—#LIKE!

Each episode will pit online sensations against each other in individual or group battles to see who has the most hashtag like-able talent.  But this time, you won’t see them on the mobile screen, not even in a TV studio, but in your very own barangay.

Who can judge these viral stars better than the Taumbayan Likers made up of 100 barangay members. The act that gets the most LIKEs will be hashtag-blessed to be called the winners.

Are you hashtag excited yet?

Joining like ng bayan Tom Rodriguez as he makes the rounds in barangays is Internet sensation Balang known for his viral dancing stints in the Ellen De Generes Show.

Sarap Diva goes international

Today, Sarap Diva will have international caliber guests. First on the roster is 1979 Miss International Melanie Marquez. The beauty queen will face Regine Velasquez-Alcasid in a one-on-one interview. In the Question and Answer portion, it will be interesting to watch out for what Melanie will answer the Songbird’s questions about the hottest issues in the country these days.

In the talent portion, perfume magnate Joel Cruz comes along with his twins who will show off their talents to the Songbird.

How does Cruz with his two sets of Russian twins divide his time between his business and parenting?

Let’s not forget Songbird’s very own recipe for patato chips that she will flavor with salted eggs.

It’s going to be a morning of songs, title-tattling and eating in Sarap Diva on GMA Network, after Maynila.
