Multimedia star Alden Richards is happy with the viewing public’s warm reception to his team-up with Jasmine Curtis Smith in their hit GMA-7 series The World Between Us, which took a season break on Friday.
The 29-year-old star said that he did not experience any difficulties working with his leading lady.
“That’s the beauty about working with her. We’re on the same page when it comes to acting. I see how professional she is. Work becomes easier because Jasmine knows her craft,” he started.
“I consider that as an advantage. We are the love team in the show and we’re very comfortable working with each other. It reflects in the scenes we do. Sometimes, we surprise Direk Dom (Zapata) because we exceed the expectations of the script. Scenes turn out to be better.”
Alden “definitely enjoys” portraying his character in his latest soap. Louie, who is somewhat gray in nature, is a character that challenges him as an actor. He also considers the role as his stepping stones to portraying more mature characters in his next projects.
“I had a word with top management recently to reassess my character in the soap and for future projects as well. It’s been our observation that our ratings spike when we do unconventional scenes like when Louie fights back and he doesn’t allow himself to be oppressed. I guess the audience gets more interested in it rather than the usual sweet moments. As we see it, they want to see a new version of Alden transitioning into more mature roles,” he explained.
Personally, is he ready to play bad guy characters?
“That’s what we don’t know yet since I haven’t done a full-blown antagonist part yet. I remember doing ‘The Road’ in 2011 though, and it was kind of offbeat. I think we can plan the process slowly. We should not be in a hurry. As Warren Buffett said, when you test the water, you don’t test it with two feet but just one,” Alden said.
