Pinoy triumphs at tourism and culture pageant in MyanmarMr. Philippines Yves Campos won the title Mister Tourism & Culture Universe 2019 in the finals night held in Yangon, Myanmar on Saturday. Campos’ counterpart Roxanne Baeyens almost made it a double victory celebration for the Philippines after she was named as 1st funner-up in the dual pageant.

The 26-year-old Campos, a native of Cebu City and presently works as a Nurse in Hawaii, was also awarded the Mister Popularity and Best in National Costume with his golden Sarimanok-inspired costume created by Allan Dela Fuente.

Vietnam’s Quach Thanh Lam was named 1st runner-up while Korea’s Donghun Chun was 2nd runner-up, and India’s Ravi Rajput was 3rd runner-up. El Salvador’s Francisco Roberto Galvez and France’sGuillaume Canada finished as 4th and 5th, respectively.

Campos was asked the question “As an ambassador of tourism, what would you do to promote the tourism industry worldwide?” during the final Q and A portion. 

“Technology has been everywhere in our lives. Given the honor to be the next Mister TCU, I will use this [title] to promote tourism. Social media has been the most valuable tool, and I believe, the best way is through vlogging. believe that tourism is the backbone of every county’s identity and we should we proud of it,” Campos answered.

 Baeyens, on the other hand, is a 22-year-old Fil-Belgian beauty, who hails from Baguio City. She was also named Miss Popularity and was Top 5 for her hot, Darna-inspired national costume made by Angelica Allado-Fonacier. Miss Indonesia Olivia Gunawan won Miss Tourism & Culture Universe 2019 with Malaysia’s Wenanita Augang and Cameroon’s Audrey Wafack, winning 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Canada’s Milissa Grande and France’s Sonia Ait Mansour, took the 4th and 5th places.

The Miss & Mister Tourism and Culture Universe was founded in Myanmar’s with a mission to promote Myanmar to the rest of the world with the winners in this pageant will actively involve and initiate the promotion of tourism worldwide and cultural exchange programs.

Breast cancer advocate Glyssa Perez pursues platform in Miss World PH

Australian born Glyssa Perez tries her luck for the second time at the 2019 Miss World Philippines pageant where she finished First Princess to Laura Lehmann two years ago. 

The 24-year-old Commerce graduate in Sydney, Australia is now more determined to win the crown.

Perez, who has a strong resemblance with her first cousin, Miss Universe Philippines 2016 Maxine Medina, won her first title, Miss Woodcroft, at the age of 16. Her other titles are Miss WOW Blacktown, Miss WOW Charity 2012, Miss Philippines-Australia 2014, Miss Bohol 2016 and Miss JCI Philippines 2016.

A breast cancer advocate since 2014 and serves as spokesperson of the Philippine Foundation of Breast Care, Inc. (KASUSO), Perez is using it as platform to raise awareness to educate people on its prevention and to raise funds to help Kasuso patients in the country. Being a breast cancer advocate is closest to her heart as her mother Yolita, from Danao, Bohol, is breast cancer survivor.

 Perez, who is a fan of Bruce Lee and classic martial arts movies, pursues a breast cancer prevention program with Kasuso called ‘You are Worthy’ project, which focuses on imparting to cancer patients that they don’t have to face the disease alone and having the support of others is an important key to survival. She has applied to patients exercise-based and mindfulness wellness activities which consist of Zumba, Yoga, Meditation and Breathing exercises which aim to enrich the quality of life and helps with the physical and mental well-being of the patients.

Perez, who was also a former track and field athlete and netball player, has dedicated herself in serving her community and hopes to inspire in empowering the future generation. Will Perez duplicate her cousin Maxine’s feat to win a major national beauty title? That will be known during the Miss World Philippines 2019 grand coronation scheduled at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sept. 15, telecast live on GMA -7.
