Netflix’s hit survival series Squid Game will be releasing its highly-anticipated second season in December, according to its lead star Lee Jung-jae.

In an interview with media outlet Business Insider, the actor shared the update about the show through an interpreter while steering clear from other details.

Hwang Dong-hyuk, the mind behind “Squid Game,” first announced that a second season for the show was in the works in 2021 during the screening for its first season in Los Angeles.

Netflix later announced that the series was renewed for a second season in June 2022, along with a reality competition spinoff series where contestants undergo the same challenges seen in the show.

Last April, Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos said the upcoming season will be released in the latter part of 2024. However, Netflix has yet to officially announce the dates for the premiere of the show’s upcoming season.

Following its premiere in September 2021, “Squid Game” quickly became Netflix’s most-viewed show based on the number of hours viewed on the platform. It received six Emmy awards in 2022 after being nominated for 14 categories.

Lee Jung-jae currently stars in the Disney+ series “The Acolyte,” a spin-off series from the Star Wars franchise created by Leslye Headland.
