Kat Agarrado’s long-awaited return to the local music scene with her band SinosiKat has arrived. After nearly 15 years since their last release, the group dropped their newest single “Heart Calling.”

Speaking to Manila Standard Entertainment, Kat described the new song as trendy yet timeless.

“My goal and intention is to create music that people can to listen to for years,” Kat said. “Music today is very trendy, but I want my music to be timeless. Even if we’re already old, it still feels fresh. You can still relate to it. I’m hoping to write songs that really inspire, especially now that we have a studio.”

This latest track follows the group’s earlier successes with the albums SinosiKat and 2nd Album in 2007 and 2009, respectively. Kat, known for her work with the So Blue hitmakers, has also been making waves as a solo artist with hits like “Sa lyong Mga Mata” and “Beautiful Kind” under Warner Music Philippines since 2022.

Kat is focused on bringing music to international festivals and growing her audience

Having started her professional singing career at just 16, Kat has remained a staple in the local music scene. Despite a period of absence, SinosiKat is back with new energy, gearing up for regular performances and the release of their new album.

Kat’s determination to uphold SinosiKat’s 20-year music legacy is evident. The band, formed in 2004, has left an indelible mark on the OPM landscape, receiving critical acclaim for their debut album and earning Kat the ‘Vocalist of the Year’ award at the NU Rock Awards.

Reflecting on the impact of the pandemic, Kat admits to contemplating retirement, but her passion for music prevailed. “Heart Calling” not only showcases Kat’s versatile vocal abilities but also signifies her resurgence in the music scene. This upbeat track marks Kat’s triumphant return, solidifying her second coming in the industry.

“We all knew that in the pandemic, everything was stopped. Some of my bandmates moved to other countries. Some prioritized their families. We had different priorities. I also have a kid,” she added.

Kat’s artistry has evolved significantly over the years. Her music today showcases a notable departure from her earlier work, reflecting growth and maturity in her style and approach.

“Before, the rock element in my songs is very strong. I was really a rocker before. Now, it’s a bit more sophisticated compared to before. There’s still a rock n’ roll element, but more polished and mature. In terms of music, I have a brass section now and I also have a musical director,” she said.

Kat expressed her desire for the music of SinosiKat to reach a wider audience. “I want to bring my music to festivals abroad,” she said. “To reach a wider audience, a younger audience. I have high hopes and dreams.”

“I got to know people by joining music festivals and creating my network. They are so amazed by the musicality of Filipinos. Sometimes, we just lack exposure, especially to reach audiences abroad,” Kat said. “I want to introduce homegrown, Filipino music to a world-class audience. I performed in Vietnam before and they knew a lot of Filipino talents. They know Filipino performers are really good. They know Sarah Geronimo and Rachelle Ann Go.”

Kat aims to expand her presence on the international stage by participating in music festivals abroad and reaching out to a broader, younger audience. She also seeks to establish connections with artists from different countries to enhance her network and gain increased exposure globally.
