I have lost count of the number of times that I encountered someone saying radio is dead or it is a dying medium. But with the advent of multi-platform broadcasting, I believe radio is able to adapt and evolve into something much more amazing than how it was before.

While many radio stations have slimmed down their operations, some even have already shut down, it is clear that the industry is still strong, and I say, “It’s been doing better than ever.”

At the launch of Radyo5 held at the Quezon Memorial Circle on March 1, I asked seasoned broadcaster Ted Failon and Radyo5 Operations and Programming Manager Cherry Baile about their thoughts on radio’s status as a broadcast medium.

Through its hosts, 92.3 Radyo5 TRUE FM aims to provide audiences with a fresh and dynamic listening experience

“They said radio was a dying medium when the billboards came out. They said no one will place them on radio anymore. That was in the ‘80s. Then dumating ang digital media and yet radio is still here. We’re a hybrid medium now. We’re working with print, we’re working with television, we’re working with digital media, and billboards as well. So, I think radio is a versatile medium and we’re here to stay because we’re always able to reinvent ourselves,” Baile pointed out.

“Radio is the most affordable medium, especially in a third-world country like ours. During emergency situations, calamities, yung wala ang lahat ng ibang medium, nandyan ang radyo. Definitely, radio will be here to stay,” Failon added.

Radyo5 unveiled its new look and identity as 92.3 Radyo5 TRUE FM, now revolutionizing the radio broadcasting landscape with its diverse line-up of programs that feature news, information, magazine-format, and entertainment shows.

92.3 Radyo5 TRUE FM aims to provide audiences with a fresh and dynamic listening experience that caters to a wide range of interests and preferences. Bannering the tagline “Dito tayo sa totoo!,” the station presents its new logo with the word TRUE, which articulates its tenets for responsible and community-centered broadcasting, with each letter signifying a principle to show its dedication to becoming the leading news and public service go-to radio station of the Philippines.

The T for Truth in journalism is evident with the radio shows Bangon Bayan with Mon of Mon Gualvez, Ted Failon & DJ Chacha, Frontline Pilipinas, and the flagship news program for local and provincial news Radyo5: Balita Pilipinas. These programs bring the latest news and information to listeners, making sure they are informed and up-to-date on the most important issues of the day.

R represents Real people and Real stories as reflected in the shows Sana Lourd of Lourd De Veyra, Power and Play of Noli Eala, Pinoy Konek of Danton Remoto, and Dr. Love of Bro. Jun Banaag. These programs feature real-life stories that are relatable and will resonate with listeners, ensuring that they can connect with the issues and events that matter most to them.

U stands for its Unwavering commitment to public service, as exemplified by Wanted sa Radyo of Sen. Raffy Tulfo, Sagot Kita of Cheryl Cosim, and Healing Galing of Dr. Edinell Calvario. These programs provide a platform for listeners to voice their concerns and grievances, and the station’s hosts and experts provide them with the assistance and advice they need.

Finally, E is for the station’s line-up of Entertaining shows such as Cristy Fermin’s Cristy Ferminute and Good Vibes with Stanley Chi and Laila Chikadora. These programs offer a well-deserved break from the day’s news, allowing listeners to unwind and relax.

With this new identity, 92.3 Radyo5 True FM is committed to delivering quality programming that engages, informs, and entertains listeners. The station’s programming lineup illustrates this overall with its news programs that feature up-to-the-minute local and international news as well as in-depth analysis and commentary. 92.3 Radyo5 TRUE FM also features a variety of informative programs that tackle relevant topics and issues, including business, health, and lifestyle.

Radio broadcasting can evolve and adapt to modern times

“We are excited to launch 92.3 Radyo5 TRUE FM and introduce our listeners to our diverse programming lineup,” said Raul M. Dela Cruz, General Manager at National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). “We believe that radio remains a powerful medium that can inform, inspire, and entertain. With our new identity, we are committed to providing our audiences with a listening experience that is relevant, engaging, and entertaining.”

92.3 Radyo5 TRUE FM is now on-air and broadcasting live nationwide. Tune in every day to hear the true sound of public service and take part in the new era of Philippine radio.
