CLARK Freeport, Pampanga—The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Central Luzon organized the Task Force Jupiter to stop rampant Illegal fishing in the area specially in Bataan and Zambales.
Nelson Bien, chief of the regulatory and law enforcement of BFAR, said the task force was composed of law enforcement agencies like elements of the National Bureau of Investigation, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, Philippines Navy, Philippines Coast Guard, Maritime Police under the over-all supervision of BFAR.
During a media forum here, Bien said they were targeting and concentrating on the main sources of producing dynamite like powder, blasting caps, and detonating cord to stop at once illegal fishing in the area.
“We already identified their sources of dynamite mostly mining companies and individuals but we are still validating the evidences against them,” he said.
Bien said dynamite fishing could kill and destroy small species and other marine resources with extensive damage on the corrals. Romeo Dizon
He said fishermen would bring to them dynamite when going to fishing, fill the bottle with powder complete with blasting caps and detonating cord and throw it down the ocean.
Because of the explosion, the fishes mostly lapulapu and maya maya including the small different species will just float and fishermen would then pick them up them easaily.
He said although the method was really very easy it was also dangerous both to the fishermen and marine life.
Another target of the task force are fishpond operators who use cyanine that pollute rivers and waterways of the region.
Fishpond operators, mostly politicians and private individuals, use cyanine in preparation for another season.
