Some 100 medical workers of Navotas City Hospital on Friday received vaccines for the coronavirus disease 2019.
Dr. Roan Salafranca, NCH Chief of Clinics, was the first to get the CoronaVac shot.
Navotas received the vaccines Thursday and stored them in the cold room at Navotas Polytechnic College.
“We are ecstatic and thankful that some of our frontliners have already received their shot. Since our cases our increasing, we hope the national government will allocate and send more vaccines to Navotas,” Mayor Toby Tiangco said.
“We have purchased 100,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, which are expected to arrive on the second half of 2021. While we are waiting for our order, we hope we will receive more vaccines from the national government so we could protect our almost 800 medical frontliners,” he added.
“We don’t want a repeat of our experience last year when we had to close down our health care facilities because some of our frontliners contracted the virus. That is why we are fiercely advocating for the vaccine, but we also respect those who wish to wait for other brands to arrive,” he said. Jun David
The Navotas City Health Department has 799 employees, 353 of whom are working at NCH.
Earlier, Navotas announced that it intends to buy vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, two other manufacturers most preferred by Navoteños according to the city’s informal survey last December. Jun David
