At least 10 people were seriously hurt after an Ayala-bound passenger bus rammed 11 motorcycles, a car and another bus Friday morning in Makati City.

10 seriously hurt in Makati after collision involving bus, car and motorcycles
RECKLESS. At least 10 people including a Coast Guard officer were seriously injured when a speeding bus rammed through several motorcycle riders at the intersection of Osmena Highway and Arnaiz Avenue in Pio del Pilar, Makati, according to Police chief Oscar Jacildo. Initial investigation showed the bus driver sideswiped another vehicle, police said. Anjo Bagaoisan

Police said the incident happened along the northbound lane of Osmena Highway near Arnaiz Avenue in Barangay Pio del Pilar around 9 a.m.

The authorities arrested Marlon Nacaytona, 29, the driver of the erring passenger bus with registration plate TYF 328, after the incident. He is now detained at the Makati City police traffic division.

Based on the initial investigation, the bus was on its way to Ayala Avenue when it lost its brake resulting in the multiple collision.

The injured victims, including a Philippine Coast Guard officer, were rushed to Ospital ng Makati, Makati Medical Center, and St. Luke’s Global.

The incident caused monstrous traffic in the areas of Arnaiz Avenue and Osmena Highway.

Faulty brake is one of the common causes of road crash in the metropolis, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

The MMDA earlier urged motorists to observe discipline and courtesy while driving to prevent road accidents.

Government records showed that most road accidents happen because of undisciplined motorists, drunk driving and the use of mobile phones while driving.
