Senator Risa Hontiveros has asked the National Bureau of Investigation to put a stop to online pages of Facebook that sexually exploit children.
“Dear NBI, please help put a stop to Facebook and online pages that sexually exploit children,” said Hontiveros in an open letter posted on the Senate website and Facebook, which was written in Pilipino.
“My office received information that there were Facebook pages where a lot of pornographic images of female children were posted. These Facebook pages have been around for a long time but these posts and groups are still active,” she said.
Hontiveros said another one they saw was a Facebook page named “Mahilig sa Bata.”
“It was very painful to see them, especially for me as a mother and as a woman,” she said.
“We need to be more vigilant and make sure our children are safe and secure, online, and offline. I call on the Bureau to investigate and immediately take down these Facebook pages. The NBI also needs to know who are running it. The criminals behind these Facebook pages and online content must be held accountable and jailed,” she said.
