Heat levels to soar up to 45 degrees, dips in Metro

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) warned of dangerous heat index levels reaching above 40 degrees in 41 areas across the country.

According to the weather bureau’s April 21, 5 pm forecast on Sunday, the highest temperature would be felt in Pili, Camarines Sur at 45 degrees Celsius, Infanta, Quezon, Puerto Princesa, and Aborlan, in Palawan, at 44 degrees Celsius.

Other areas which are projected to experience high levels of heat are the following:

• Dagupan City, 43 degrees Celsius

• Aparri, Cagayan, 43 degrees Celsius

• Legazpi City, 43 degrees Celsius

• Virac, Catanduanes, 43 degrees Celsius

• Guiuan, Eastern Samar, 43 degrees Celsius

• Masbate City, 43 degrees Celsius

• Juban, Sorsogon, 43 degrees Celsius

• Tuguegarao, Cagayan, 42 degrees Celsius

In Metro Manila, PAGASA forecast temperatures to range at a high of 41 degrees Celsius at NAIA, Pasay City, to 40 degrees Celsius at Quezon City Science Garden.

Pagasa said the heat index is what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature.

The weather bureau advised the public to limit the time spent outdoors, especially at noon, and to drink plenty of water.

It also reminded people to wear hat or use umbrellas outdoors.
