The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines is getting ready for the expected surge of air travelers during the upcoming Holy Week.

CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said the agency is expecting a seven to 10 percent increase in air travel during the Lenten season due to revenge travel following the pandemic.

CAAP assured that the 44 airports under its supervision and management are fully prepared to implement Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Holy Week 2024, once it is activated by the Department of Transportation.

Several airports recently conducted bomb simulations in preparation for the anticipated influx of travelers, especially amidst the emergence of bomb jokes in airports.

Airport managers have been instructed to submit airport operations and communication plans to ensure a safe, reliable, and convenient system at CAAP airports during this period.

Furthermore, a “no leave policy” for employees will be implemented to guarantee proper service for passengers returning to their provinces to rest and reflect this Holy Week.

Based on data from CAAP’s Aerodrome Development and Management Service, passenger movement from March to April 2023 reached 4.4 million, which is 1.2 million higher compared to the 3.1 million recorded during the same period in 2022.

CAAP will not only monitor passengers returning to their provinces, but also those returning to their jobs after the Holy Week to ensure a safe and secure travel experience for all passengers.

Meanwhile, AirAsia Philippines also expressed its full readiness in accommodating and safely flying its guests, who are expected to visit various provinces for their pilgrimage activities.

To ensure a smooth operation during the Holy Week and the upcoming summer holiday, AirAsia has beefed up its manpower, hiring additional mechanics and ground staff, which will ensure faster aircraft turnaround and positive on time performance.

Self-check-in kiosks also provide faster alternatives for guests departing at Terminals 2 and 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

“We would like to assure that everyone will be able to fly safely and conveniently during the holidays as we also understand the importance of Holy Week to most of us. On top of the current manpower, we also have staff on standby who can be tapped to help during peak hours,” said AirAsia spokesman Steve Dailisan.
