The government is committed to building more “safe, quality, and comfortable” housing units in the country, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said Friday.

The President led the turnover of 360 housing units to displaced Caviteños affected by the cleanup project in Manila Bay.

“This is aimed at providing relief to Cavite residents affected by the Supreme Court’s Writ of Continuing Mandamus for the cleanup of Manila Bay and the relocation of families residing along its shores,” President Marcos said during his address.

“As an immediate response, we expedited their relocation to new homes that are secure, high-quality, comfortable, and feature well-organized communities,” he added.

President Marcos emphasized that the Ciudad Kaunlaran Project is a collaborative initiative involving the National Housing Authority (NHA), the local government of Bacoor, and various government agencies and private sectors.

The target completion date for the relocation or turnover of all housing units under Phase I is set before March, with two additional buildings planned for the second phase, accommodating up to 120 families.

The second phase of the project is projected to conclude by the first quarter of 2025.

“I encourage our beneficiaries to strengthen their collaboration with the government to maintain order and prosperity in the communities we are building,” President Marcos said.

Moreover, President Marcos disclosed that the NHA has successfully constructed over 80,000 housing units nationwide as part of the government’s commitment to providing shelter for Filipino families, including the P700 million budget through the Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP).

The budget was allocated for families affected by natural and man-made disasters.

“Your government is committed to keeping enough funds to meet the housing needs of many. NHA continues to develop and implement housing programs for Filipino families,” President Marcos affirmed.

He also mentioned the close collaboration with Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jerry Acuzar to continue the construction of housing units for affected residents.
