Senator Nancy Binay has urged the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to ensure that travelers for the holidays will not face unpleasant experiences due to technical and operational glitches in airports, seaports, and public terminals.

Binay said she expects the DOTr to take steps to prevent any future power outages and technical glitches that have caused operational disruptions in the past.

In January and May of this year, power outages at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminal resulted in over 600 grounded and canceled flights, leaving tens of thousands of passengers stranded.

“We don’t just have to watch the airports. We also have to focus on the docks and passenger ships, buses in public terminals, and other modes of transportation–surely there will be an influx of vacationers to catch up on Christmas New Year,” Binay added.

As Christmas and New Year’s vacations are expected to bring an influx of travelers, Binay emphasized the importance of focusing on docks, passenger ships, buses in public terminals, and other modes of transportation to ensure smooth and safe travel without compromising safety and security.

Binay urged travelers to cooperate with security personnel during the screening process and prepare for reasonable delays in schedules as most points of entry/exit are expected to be crowded with people and cargo.

She is optimistic that Secretary Jaime Bautista will ensure everyone is home for Christmas and take necessary measures to prevent travel disruptions until the new year.

The lady lawmaker hopes that the DOTr officials will take the necessary precautions to prevent another holiday meltdown and ensure that travelers have a hassle-free and safe journey.
