A total of P3 billion has been earmarked for the implementation of the “Ang Nars decision,” or nurses pay hike, included in the P32-billion funding for the increase in government workers’ salaries within the national budget for 2020, according to Senate Finance Committee Senator Sonny Angara.

“Well, the nurses, the funds for them is there,” Angara told reporters on Friday after emerging from the opening of the bicameral conference meeting on next year’s budget held at the Marco Polo club in Makati City.

He said there’s  P32 billion for all government workers because based on the study of the Department of Budget and Management, they will all be covered.

“In fact, not just the public school teachers, also government employees. Because what the other wanted, they should be given first the increase,” said Angara as he braces for a “smooth sailing” budget deliberation.

He said the House and the Senate will study the respective changes in the versions – each versions of the budget and then, they will meet again next week to reconcile.

Beginning next year, Sen. Bing Go believes that nurses working in public health institutions of the national government will be enjoying a salary increase of not lower than Salary Grade 15 after the Senate Finance committee approved needed appropriations pursuant to Supreme Court decision upholding Section 32 of the Philippine Nursing Act of 2002.
