The Presidential Commission on Urban Poor on Monday vowed to establish a federation of all urban poor communities, mostly informal settlers, toward a more meaningful engagement.

Alvin Feliciano, PCUP and chief executive officer president, said the creation of the federation would enable the agency fast track its delivery of public service and would further empower the poor so that they could be able to transform their own lives.

“PCUP wishes to bring our programs and projects and reach out to the urban poor in the provinces,” he said.

He lamented over complaints that those in the provinces find it hard to avail themselves of the assistance from the PCUP.

“These complaints have pushed us to create an urban poor federation, wherein we could easily communicate with one another and bring our services,” he said.

According to the PCUP chief, he would closely coordinate with different organizations and local government units to have an open dialogue, and hear various concerns and problems of the poor not only in Metro Manila but also in the countryside, and to respond to their needs.

Through the establishment of a federation, every urban poor community would be given the voice to become active leaders, he noted.

Each federation shall have its own representative, he said.

“The urban poor has long been waiting for government’s assistance. PCUP is here to help you,” he said.
