The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reports, Metro Manila is under yellow alert for four hours today.

This warning is up from 11 am until 3 pm on Friday.

The NGCP cites thin reserves in the electricity as the reason.

This situation came about because of the shutdowns in the operations of some power plants.

The alert will not necessarily lead to blackouts.

Yellow alert means reserves are not enough to cover the largest running generating unit at a given time.

The Department of Energy (DOE) previously said power plants that go on forced shutdowns will be audited.

Energy Undersecretary Felix Fuentebella stressed the current yellow alerts are caused by thinning reserves and not because of low supply in electricity.
