President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Police Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido the chief of police in Iloilo City.
He made the announcement during his speech for National Heroes' Day at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) in Taguig City.
"Your next assignment is Iloilo," he told the police official who was in the audience.
He also noted that the mayor gets killed in areas where Espenido was recently assigned.
Duterte was referring to Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog and Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr.

The President said he does not mind if local officials get slain if there is resistance during operations against illegal drugs, so long as police operatives conducting raids and arrests are following the rule of law.
