The Social Weather Stations (SWS) reports a slight improvement in the number of persons who have jobs in the Philippines.

SWS’ survey for the first quarter of this year reveals a 2.2 percent decrease in the number of adults who have no jobs.

Joblessness was at 25.1 percent in the fourth quarter of last year.

During the first quarter of 2017, the figure went down at 22.9 percent.

The 2.2 percent decrease means that about 800,000 individuals were able to get out of the state of joblessness in the first four months of this year.

While this may sound like a positive development, the SWS survey also notes, the Filipinos’ job optimism for the next 12 months dropped.

In the fourth quarter of 2016, optimism was at 48 percent.

During the first quarter of the current year, the number went down to 44 percent.
