Some 105 informal settler families, many of whom are occupying waterways in Barangay Bagbag, have been added to the list of qualified beneficiaries of Quezon City’s socialized housing projects.

The new batch of beneficiaries will be occupying the Bistekville 8 housing project recently inaugurated by Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista.

Former Ambassador Bienvenido Tan Jr. donated the property, which sits on a 1,973 square-meter property near Kingspoint Subdivision in Barangay Bagbag, to the city government for public use.

The project yields about 105 housing units in a three-storey walk-up building, with each unit measuring 21 square meters excluding the corridor area.  Urban poor families within the vicinity of the Bagbag cemetery will also benefit from the project.

According to the QC Housing and Community Development and Resettlement Department (HCDRD), formerly the urban poor affairs office headed by Ramon Asprer, at least three Bistekville projects are now fully developed.

Bistekville 1 is in Barangay Payatas, Bistekville 2 in Barangay Kaligayahan, and Bistekville 6 is in Barangay Fairview.

Bistekville 9 in Barangay Gulod has been scheduled for turnover.

Eighteen other Bistekville housing projects are under development for Quezon City’s poor, especially informal settlers occupying danger areas such as waterways, road-right-of-ways and various government projects and properties.

Records of the HCDRD indicate that the city’s relocation requirement stands at 64,481 ISFs.

Bistekville projects offer affordable homes with a very low monthly amortization of P2,600.  Program beneficiaries may avail of the P450,000 housing loan package offered by Pag-ibig Fund, which they will pay for a maximum period of 30 years depending on the age of the borrower.
