#ANONGBALITA BSP clarifies ‘hidden wealth’ claim after Filipinos flock to demand trillions

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said it does not directly give out money after thousands of Filipinos stormed the central bank demanding “hidden wealth.”

“The BSP wishes to clarify that it does not directly disburse funds to the public. Instead, the BSP gives dividends to the government in order to contribute to programs that would elevate the lives of Filipinos,” the BSP said in Filipino.

This comes after Democratic and Republican Guardians Philippines Inc. founder Gilbert Langres earlier this week led thousands from different regions to the BSP, claiming an amount of up to P100 trillion awaits Filipinos.

Langres also brought supposed documents like an alleged certificate from the central bank’s treasury department to support his claims.

BSP security personnel had advised the group consisting mostly of senior citizens to go home due to the extreme heat, vowing to relay their message to the proper officials.

Earlier this week, the central bank also released an advisory on individuals posing as its employees.

“To guard against such misrepresentations, the BSP reminds the public to always remain vigilant, avoid providing personal or financial information to suspicious individuals, and refrain from sending money to unverified recipients,” the BSP said.
