In celebration of the 344th Aparri Town Fiesta, comedian Norman Balbuena, better known as Boobay, performed in a variety show along with fellow comedian Pepita Curtis on May 7 in Aparri, Cagayan.
What was supposed to be a fun celebration turned into a shocking affair when Boobay suddenly dropped unconscious onstage beside one of the speakers in the middle of his performance.
Many fans expressed their concern as the incident was broadcast live in a live stream on the official Facebook account of Appari Vice Mayor Rene Chan. In an interview with PEP.ph, Boobay said that the lights onstage had triggered his seizure, which led to him collapsing. However, he said that he was fine and was recovering well.
A day after the event, Boobay went on to the social media pages of his talk show The Boobay and Tekla Show to thank his fans who were concerned for his welfare.
“Gusto ko lang po iparating sa inyong lahat na ako po ay okay na okay at nais ko lamang pong pasalamatan ang ating mga minamahal na mga kapuso, kamag-anak, mga kaibigan na nag-alala. Don’t worry dahil here I am, Boobay buhay na buhay and ready to fight,” the comedian said in a video.
He further said that while he collapsed due to the strong lights, the show was still able to go on to entertain the audience. Boobay then greeted the residents of Aparri once again for the celebration of their founding anniversary.
“See you again soon. I love you all!” said Boobay, ending the video with a flying kiss.
The comedian previously had a seizure last April 2023 that was also caught on camera when he was a guest in Fast Talk with Boy Abunda. Boobay explained that it was a side effect of a mild stroke that he suffered from in 2016.
