Man, 70, arrested at NAIA for having 2 firearms

A 70-year-old male passenger was arrested by police aviation security officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport – Terminal 3 for carrying two firearms and bullets.

The suspect is currently detained and will face charges for violating the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (Republic Act No. 10591) before the Pasay City prosecutor’s office.

Initial reports indicated that the man attempted to deposit a .22-cal Ruger Pistol and a .45-cal. Thompson Pistol with three magazines and 20 rounds of ammunition at the terminal’s firearms booth.

However, authorities discovered that his permit to carry firearms did not match the serial number of the guns.

Brig. Gen Christopher Abrahano, chief of the Police Aviation Security Group, commended the his men for their efforts in ensuring aviation security and safety. He assured the public that the aviation police will remain at the forefront of upholding the law in all airports nationwide and are ready to respond in times of need.

The Manila International Airport Authority has been reminding air travelers about the dangers of bringing firearms and other banned items to the airport. “Doing so will not only delay your flight, but it would also cause panic among other passengers.”

Since January of this year, airport authorities have also been able to confiscate at least 4,000 bullets in four NAIA terminals.

There was also an incident where a man was arrested after being caught with a grenade at the initial screening area of NAIA Terminal 2.
