Magnitude 5.9 earthquake rocks Mindoro

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake rocked Occidental Mindoro Tuesday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The tremor of tectonic origin hit some seven kilometers southeast off Lubang town at 4:23 p.m. It had a depth of 79 kilometers.

Phivolcs advised residents near the epicenter to expect aftershocks.

Intensity 5 was felt in Lubang, Occidental Mindoro and Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro, while intensity 4 was felt in Metro Manila’s Makati City, Taguig City and Quezon City; and Bulacan’s Malolos City, Meycauayan City, Obando, and Plaridel.

It was also felt at intensity 4 in Pampanga’s Floridablanca; Batangas’ San Jose and Cavite’s Tagaytay City.

Metro Manila’s Caloocan City and Pasig City; Batangas’ Cuenca and Talisay; Cavite’s Bacoor City and General Trias City; Rizal’s Rodriguez, and Occidental Mindoro’s Mamburao felt it at intensity 3.

Intensity 2 was registered in Marikina City; Bulacan’s San Jose Del Monte; Nuevo Ecija’s
Gabaldon; Quezon’s Lucban; Rizal’s San Mateo; and Romblon’s Odiongan.

Pampanga’s San Fernando City, Laguna’s San Pedro City and Quezon’s Mauban recorded intensity 1.
