Energy China hosts open-day event at Kaliwa Dam Project

Energy China hosted an open-day event on Nov. 16 at the outlet area of the diversion tunnel for the Kaliwa Dam Project that is part of the New Centennial Water Source Project in Infanta, Quezon.

Energy China said more than 85 representatives from the Governance Commission for State-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GCG) and students from Saint Joseph College formed a delegation for an on-site tour.

The event aimed to showcase the advanced technologies and engineering equipment employed in the construction process of the project, which promotes mutual understanding between China and the Philippines in the field of infrastructure development.

During the event, the delegation toured the outlet area of the diversion tunnel for the project, closely inspected the operational zones such as the Concrete Pipe Segment Factory, Industrial Square, and the entrance of the water conveyance tunnel, and gained insights into the construction progress and technical features of major equipment.

Members of the delegation praised the construction scale and technological level of the project and expressed sincere admiration for China’s advanced experience in the field of infrastructure.

“Through this visit, I have learned how various equipment is employed in constructing this dam, including how the advanced Sampaguita TBM operates swiftly underground with high quality. I appreciate everyone’s efforts in collectively advancing the construction of this project,” Mark Glester Sanchez, a student from Saint Joseph College, said in an interview.

The China Energy Engineering Group Ltd. or Energy China started the tunneling operation using a hard-rock shield tunnel boring machine (TBM) for the dam project on Dec. 7, 2022.
