President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expects stronger bilateral relations between the Philippines and India following his talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile, Marcos’ fourth Cabinet meeting on Friday discussed how the government could assist agrarian reform beneficiaries.

“We are glad to have talked with Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone. We will ensure that our good relations with India will be strengthened,” the President said in his Instagram post on Saturday.

“I’m sure it will mean improved relations with India,” Marcos said in his Facebook post.

During the phone conversation, the two leaders reviewed various areas of cooperation and “expressed satisfaction at the rapid growth of bilateral relations between the two countries in recent years,” according to a press statement released by India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

“The Prime Minister also assured President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of India’s full support in his plans and projects for the Philippines’ development,” it stated.

Malacañang said among the interventions deliberated upon was the crafting of a measure on the condonation of payments for the amortization fees and interests on the farmers’ loans, as well as providing legal help for farmers involved in land disputes.

The Palace added that beneficiaries could also be given modern farm equipment and credit assistance.
