Young man’s classic groove The combination of youth dynamism and the classy, jazzy sway of the olden days is a thing of beauty when rendered in a song. The irony it presents reflects the universality and timelessness of music as expression.

A newly released Tagalog single “Sayaw Ng Buhay” amplifies such an idea in all its splendor, carried mainly by the vocal vibrancy of its young singer Vincent Jao III, a pride of Sorsogon who idolizes the likes of Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble. That must be strong clues as to the kind of music he’s into.

Young man’s classic groove
Sorsogon pride Vincent Jao III sings in a jazzy groove for his second digital single “Sayaw Ng Buhay.”

Vincent shared, “My playlist contains songs of varied genres such as R&B, jazz, and ballad. But I often listen to old songs because they give me some chill vibes whenever I’m busy or stressed.”

Composed by a tunesmith with potential for greatness named Nathaniel Cabanero, the track serenades with its feel-good, easy listening mood that warmly brings back memories of the sweet past. It’s a recording that stands out like an antidote to the scary, chaotic atmosphere prevailing in today’s pandemic-stricken reality. It is a week old song available on digital streaming platforms, a followup to his debut single “Eden Rose” released last April. Safe to say this young fellow understands the call for strong, inspiring voices.

Supported by a big brood of talented siblings, a father who loves classics, and a mom who can sing, Vincent noted, “My family allowed me to develop that love for music and live in a nurturing environment where I can play keyboard, piano, and guitar.”

Blessed with glowing looks that projects him like a matinee idol from the golden years, this breakout artist actively engaged in his school’s music showcase and delighted crowds in occasions spearheaded by the Division Office of Sorsogon City. It’s a plus that he is likewise a consistent honor student leader and an advocate for various social causes. Here is a rising star from Bicol primed for fame nationwide!

When Vincent sings the line, “Sabay nating yakapin ang saliw ng tugtugin,” he rhymes words and delivers them with passion and bliss. Then gently he grooves his way to the chorus, which goes, “Halina’t sumayaw/ Sayaw ng ating buhay/ Sabay ang hakbang at tibok ng puso na para lamang sa’yo.” With that, only a fool can’t feel like dancing or appreciating he’s alive, perhaps in love with someone.

The promising talent is well-mentored by a US-based talent management and production which he describes as “genuinely caring for their people.” Some experts tapped for the recording included arranger Jun Tamayo, back-up singer Arnie Mendaros, mixing engineering Albert Tamayo, and supervisors Reck Cardinales and Andy Gravito.

“I will devote time to fine-tuning my craft so I can create beautiful music,” Vincent promised before heading to the studio to kick off his recording career.

As it is obviously heard all over the track, Vincent’s sophomore single “Sayaw Ng Buhay” says a lot about his musicality and how he is tightly embracing the art of music appreciation.
