Some 1,056 registered fisherfolk in Navotas have received cash and food subsidy from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

The city’s first batch of beneficiaries brought home P3,000 cash vouchers to be claimed at MLhuillier and P2,000 worth of food items, including 25 kilos of rice, two frozen chickens, and two trays of eggs.

“We are grateful to the Department of Agriculture and BFAR for extending help to our fisherfolk. Navotas is the first local government in Metro Manila to receive such assistance,” Mayor Toby Tiangco said.

Navotas logged 8,811 registered fisherfolk as of August 2020. Of this number, 7,291 qualified for the BFAR subsidy after the agency conducted crossmatching with other government assistance programs.

Qualified beneficiaries included fishing crew, fish vendors and traders, fish porters, fish farmers, and other fish workers.
