Navotas City inaugurated three more pumping stations on Friday in the villages of San Roque, Daanghari and North Bay Boulevard South (NBBS), bringing its total number of flood control assets to 72.

Mayor John Rey Tiangco said the equipment is expected to bring huge relief to many Navoteños, who used to struggle during wet seasons because of the flood.

“Before, when people talk about Navotas, aside from fish they think about flood. This causes a lot of trouble because it affects not only our daily routines, but also our livelihood and health,” Mayor Tiangco said in Filipino at the blessing and inauguration ceremony.

“Let us take care of our pumping stations. Think of it as our property. If we have this mindset, I am sure we can keep this facility working properly,” he added.

Flood control projects are among the top initiatives of his administration alongside his brother, Rep. Toby Tiangco.

The elder Tiangco, in his remarks, said the people of Navotas must help ensure the success of the project, as he encouraged his constituents to practice proper waste disposal to prevent floods.

“You have a lot to contribute in preventing floods in our city. The water will get pumped more effectively if there is no trash clogging it. So, let us be responsible in disposing of our garbage,” Rep. Tiangco said.

The newly inaugurated pumping stations are located in Judge Roldan St., Brgy. San Roque; Daanghari St., Brgy. Daanghari; and Maliputo St., NBBS-Dagat-dagatan.

Also present during the inauguration were Vice Mayor Tito Sanchez, members of the city council, barangay chairpersons, city department heads, and personnel from the Department of Public Works and Highways.
