SAN MARIANO, Isabela – As part of its continuous commitment to promoting innovation and expanding knowledge in the province of Isabela, the Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO)-Isabela, spearheaded by Provincial Director Mr. Lucio G. Calimag, evaluated the Isabela State University’s (ISU) San Mariano Campus in preparation for possible inclusion in the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) Knowledge Innovation, Science, and Technology (KIST) Program on February 14, 2024, at Sta. Filomena, San Mariano, and Isabela.

PD Calimag said the initiative seeks to empower local communities, spur economic growth, and move Isabela toward a successful and sustainable future through strategic investments in research and development, knowledge exchange, and technology commercialization.

The assessment at the ISU San Mariano Campus was carried out with thorough attention to detail, with a focus on finding areas of strength and potential partnerships.

The assessment included a variety of factors, including research facilities, faculty expertise, existing collaborations, and institutional support for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Throughout the assessment process, PSTO Isabela staff communicated with key members of the campus community, including academics, researchers, and support staff.

With its cutting-edge laboratories, diversified faculty, and strong dedication to research excellence, ISU San Mariano Campus stood out as a viable contender for the KIST Program.

The campus’s potential as a hub for innovation and knowledge development in the area is further enhanced by its advantageous position in the region.

Furthermore, the assessment findings will serve as the foundation for establishing a comprehensive action plan to maximize ISU San Mariano Campus’ potential as a catalyst for innovation and technical growth.

This could include initiatives like research grants, technology transfer programs, industry alliances, and capacity-building activities aimed at improving the campus’s research and development environment.

The collaboration between PSTO Isabela and ISU San Mariano Campus demonstrates the transformative power of science, technology, and innovation in promoting inclusive development and creating a better future for the province of Isabela as the assessment concludes and plans for collaboration take shape.

The program’s strategic investments in research and development, information sharing, and technology commercialization aim to empower local communities, boost economic growth, and propel Isabela into a prosperous and sustainable future.

DOST’s KIST Program seeks to leverage educational institutions’ potential as hubs of innovation and technological growth.

Through innovation-driven projects, the program aims to improve research and development skills, facilitate technology transfer, and boost economic growth by giving support and resources to select campuses.
