IMUS CITY, Cavite—Leaders of this province joined the country in celebrating National Flag Day on Sunday and began their countdown for the celebration of Philippine Independence on June 12.

Cavite’s leaders also gathered here, the provincial capitol, to commemorate the historic Battle of Alapan 119 years ago or in May 1898.

Imus Mayor Manny Maliksi, Imus Rep. AA Advincula, Vice Mayor Arnel Cantimbuhan and the mayor’s father, former Cavite governor Ayong Maliksi, and city councilors led a program at the Dambana ng Pambansang Watawat Heritage Park in Alapan II-B here.

Department of Budget and Management Region 4-A Director Ruby Pacheco also graced the raising of the giant national flag at the 90-feet high pole in the epic park.

The Battle of Alapan was the first victorious battle of Cavite icon General Emilio Aguinaldo, who would later become the Philippine Republic’s first President, during the Filipino revolution against Spain.
