The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warns of another wave of dangerous heat index in several areas nationwide on Thursday, led by Sangley Point, Cavite, whose temperature is expected to reach 47 degrees Celsius.

Based on its forecast as of 5PM on Wednesday (April 24), Filipinos will feel extreme heat across 37 sites including Dagupan City, Pangasinan (46C) and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City (45C).

PAGASA also predicts heat levels between 42 to 45 degrees Celsius in parts of Zambales, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Capiz, Albay, Catanduanes, Batangas, Nueva Ecija, Cagayan, La Union, Isabela, Pampanga, Aurora, Quezon Province, Oriental Mindoro, Camarines Sur, Iloilo, Northern Samar, Zamboanga del Sur, Masbate, Davao del Sur, Maguindanao, Eastern Samar, Leyte, and Ilocos Norte.

For this reason, many schools across different regions already announced the suspension of onsite classes. School administrators advised thousands of students to attend their classes virtually including universities and colleges in Metro Manila.

The Department of Education, which oversees more than 47,600 schools, said nearly 6,700 schools suspended in-person classes on Wednesday.
