THE CALABARZON police office has presented at Camp Gen. Vicente Lim in Canlubang, Laguna its report on “significant accomplishments” in its on-going campaign against  loose firearms.

The accomplishment report covering the period Oct. 1 to Dec. 13, this year, showed that elements of the regional police force conducted various operations, including service of search warrants, Oplan Katok, and other strategic initiatives, resulting in the confiscation of a substantial number of unlicensed firearms.

Regional police director Brig. Gen. Paul Kenneth Lucas said the operating units confiscated 191 and recovered eight loose firearms, while 579 others were voluntarily surrendered. The guns will be turned over to the Regional Civil Security Unit for proper disposition.

The report also indicated the arrest of 182 suspects and filing of criminal cases for alleged violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

“Our primary goal in these operations is to mitigate shooting incidents and other criminal activities involving the use of illegal firearms to ensure the safety of our communities,” PBGEN Paul Kenneth T Lucas said.

The firearms seized were often in the possession of individuals involved in criminal activities posing a direct threat to public safety. Through these efforts, (we) aim to curtail the potential for violence and create a secure environment for the residents of CALABARZON.

The police Region 4A office continuously implements aggressive preventive measures to avoid indiscriminate firing of guns and related incidents such as public awareness campaigns to intensify efforts to educate the public on the dangers of indiscriminate firing and the legal consequences associated with it.

“Our personnel will conduct heightened patrols and set up checkpoints in strategic areas to deter any unlawful activities, including the illegal discharge of firearms. We are also collaborating closely with local government units, community leaders, and other stakeholders to
foster a collective approach in maintaining peace and order during this festive season,” Lucas added.

He also urged the public to cooperate with the authorities in creating a secure environment, especially during the coming Yuletide season.
