THE Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) recently won the platinum award for excellence in environmental, social and corporate governance, including the best initiative on environmental responsibility for its program ‘Shore it Up’, at the Asset Corporate Awards in Hong Kong.
“This award mean a lot to us, as this showcases the importance MPIC gives to the environment,” said Melody del Rosario, VP for corporate communications of the MPIC.
’‘Shore It Up’ is MPIC’s 11-year-old environmental advocacy with Local Government Unit (LGU) partners all over the Philippines to bring long-term sustainable programs such as underwater and coastal cleanup, mangrove and tree planting, giant clam rearrangement, artificial reef restoration, environmental education and livelihood for coastal village communities.
The program currently has 75,000 volunteers from Alaminos City, Pangasinan; Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte; Mabini, Batangas; Medina, Misamis Oriental and Cordova, Cebu, all of whom work year-round to preserve the marine ecosystem in these areas.
The Asset Corporate Awards gives awards to companies based on the quality of their governance, social responsibility, environmental responsibility and investor relations.
The awards are based on the Asset Benchmark Research (ABR), which conducts in-depth, product-specific surveys on Asia’s financial markets.
