Grab has yet to settle up to P6 million in refund to customers, according to the Philippine Competition Commission.

The amount is part of the P25 million that the PCC asked Grab to reimburse passengers for alleged overpricing of its services.

PCC officer-in-charge director Ivy Medina said Grab settled 70 percent of the total refund so far.

Medina said the anti-trust body was studying whether the failure of Grab to settle the full amount deserved another penalty.

The PCC said it would continue to engage Grab to reimburse what the grab-hailing company owed passengers in terms of overcharging of fares.

It said that as of February 2023, the ride-hailing firm still owed the public P5 million to P6 million in refund.

The refund is on top of the P40-million fine the PCC sought to collect from Grab because of the latter’s alleged failure to fulfill its price commitments.

PCC chairperson Michael Aguinaldo said the agency needed more teeth to enforce the antitrust provisions of the Philippine Competition Act.

“In terms of teeth, they [Grab] have not been complying, but it is a game of itself,” Aguinaldo said.

The PCC said it remained steadfast in its mandate to protect the public from unjust and uncompetitive practices.

Grab said in a statement it remained committed to fulfilling its obligations.  The company confirmed that it settled only 73 percent of the administrative fee and that it was working with the PCC towards the full depletion of the remaining 27 percent.
