National Power Corp. announced Tuesday the death of president and chief executive Pio Benavidez who suffered from heart attack.

Benavidez, a licensed mechanical engineer, served as president of Napocor from April 2017 to the day of his departure.

Boss Pio, as he is fondly called by NPC employees, was described as a tough leader who braved through any challenge while having the capacity to be compassionate to others.

He paved new roads for his people to tread on and generously shared his knowledge and experience.  He had devoted his life to public service since 1974.

Benavidez was from Catanduanes and was married to Virginia Benavidez, former Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam and New Zealand including Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and Cook Islands. They have two children, Alexander and Rubianca and daughter-in-law, Jofren.
