The Department of Energy (DOE) on Monday inaugurated the Energy Sector Emergency Operations Center (ESEOC) and the Mobile Energy System (MES) to address the need for resilient energy infrastructure and response capabilities in times of crisis.
The two new initiatives are part of the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) $34-million Energy Secure Philippines activity with the Philippine government through the Department of Energy (DOE).
“Today, we reaffirm our commitment to preparedness, coordination, and collaboration in times of disaster as we launch the Energy Sector Emergency Operations Center and the Mobile Energy System,” Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla said during the ceremony at the DOE compound in Taguig City attended by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
Lotilla said the center, which utilizes the latest technological innovations from Europe and the United States, will serve as a beacon of hope and resilience.
“Through seamless coordination, real time communication and enhanced situational awareness among stakeholders from the energy sector, government agencies, and private sectors, we will stand united in our efforts to safeguard our energy infrastructure and ensure the continuous and reliable supply of energy to our communities,” Lotilla said.
The ESEOC is is positioned to monitor, assess and coordinate responses to various energy-related emergencies, including natural disasters, grid failures and cyber security threats.
It leverages real-time data analytics and predictive modeling thus enabling proactive decision-making and rapid deployment of resources to mitigate disruptions and safeguard critical infrastructure.
