Repower Energy Development Corp., a subsidiary of Pure Energy Holdings Corp., said Monday said it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).

REDC said in a statement this signifies the company’s intention to pursue the development of mini-hydropower plants in three areas where the NIA has existing infrastructure.

REDC requested for the NIA’s permission to conduct comprehensive studies on the economic, financial and technical viability of the projects.

These projects cover the river irrigation systems (RIS) in Barangay Dapdap in Tayabas, Quezon; Barangay Sta. Justina in Iriga City, Camarines Sur; and Barangay Poblacion in Pilar, Bohol.

REDC said it would deploy its engineers and technical staff to these areas for planning and maintenance of the projects.

“We would like to thank NIA administrator Eddie Guillen and the entire organization for their trust and confidence in REDC by allowing us to develop and integrate mini hydropower plants into their existing infrastructure,” REDC president Eric Peter Roxas said during the signing ceremony.

“These will benefit the Filipino people through renewable energy that will be delivered to their households. At the same time, these projects are designed to uphold the property rights of Filipino farmers so that they can continue with their livelihood,” Roxas said.

The Department of Energy (DOE) recently awarded REDC wind energy service contracts totaling 500 megawatts that would further expand its portfolio of clean-energy facilities around the country.

The 25-year wind contracts would allow the company to build the wind farms in Real and Mauban, Quezon Province. Alena Mae S. Flores
