Aboitiz Power Corp. will develop 721 megawatts of renewable energy projects over the next three years as part of its clean energy expansion, a top executive said over the weekend.

“All in all over the next three years, we have about 721 MW of RE projects under priority development. These are all part of our RE growth strategy over the next decade,” said Aboitiz Power president and chief executive officer Emmanuel Rubio.

He said the company is looking forward to the completion and commercial operations of the Cayanga solar project by the end of this year.

Aboitiz Power’s PV Sinag Power Cayanga Project involves the construction of a 94-MW solar power plant in Bugallon, Pangasinan.

“In the next few weeks, we will also be able to secure a notice to proceed for our 160-MW peak Laoag Solar project,” he said.

The company is also developing the 10-MW SN AboitizPower Magat battery energy storage systems project; the 84-MW PV Sinag Power San Manuel Solar Project; the 44-MW AP Renewable Energy Corp. Tarlac Solar Project; the 40-MW Hedcor Bukidnon Kibungan Hydro Project; the 212-MW PV Sinag Power Olongapo Solar Project; the 56-MW PV Sinag Power Ramon Solar Project; the 50-MW PV Sinag Power Gamu Solar Project; the 75-MW SN AboitizPower-Magat Floating Solar Project; and the 150-MW Aboitiz Solar Power Inc Calatrava Solar Project.

Rubio said Aboitiz Power is also firming up its venture into liquefied natural gas.

“We’re looking at participating in the Meralco CSP [competitive selection process] that will be delivered in 2030 according to their power supply procurement plan, and we intend to participate using LNG,” Rubio said.

“We will grow our generation portfolio without adding new coal, thus we’re also considering LNG for Naga, Cebu for 150 MW that will be delivered in 2026,” he said.

Rubio said the LNG-to-power projects with JERA, Japan’s largest power generation company, were in the early development phase, “but it’s our intention to eventually shift our baseload focus to gas.”

JERA acquired a 27-percent stake in Aboitiz Power, which included a 1.99-percent stake from the Aboitiz family’s privately-held Aboitiz & Company last year.
