The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), in coordination with the local government of Quezon City, allowed Manila Water Company Inc. to take over the management of the La Mesa Ecopark in preparation for the celebration of the Philippine Environment Month and World Environment Day in June.

The rehabilitation of the La Mesa Ecopark, which will be done in phases, will transform it into a destination of choice that offers experiential learning on watershed protection and climate action.

Phase 1 of the repair will prioritize areas that the public can enjoy such as the eco academy pavilion, the museum and building activity centers.

The picnic areas, souvenir shop, viewing deck and swimming pool will also be refurbished for visitors.

These facilities are expected to be completed before the gates open to the public, according to Manila Water.

“As the gates swing open in June, Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the rehabilitation works will continue to complete the revival of the La Mesa Ecopark,” the company said.

Manila Water president Jocot de Dios said the re-opening of the La Mesa Ecopark will be a fitting tribute on World Environment Day and a lasting gift of hope for generations to come.

Manila Water said it would reinforce environmental awareness attractions within the park that would give visitors a memorable experience and inspire them to be good stewards of the environment.

“The La Mesa Ecopark will be a place to commune with nature without traveling far. Aligning with global conservation principles, each visit will be an immersion and appreciation of biodiversity in the city,” de Dios said.

MWSS also prospects that with the re-opening of the La Mesa Ecopark, it will remind all visitors that communing with the environment is our way of helping conserve it and our waters.
