Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista and Danish Ambassador to the Philippines Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin on Thursday witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and Denmark-based Green Marine Copenhagen to promote the use of methanol as marine fuel for Philippine ships to ensure commercially viable sustainable shipping

Signing on behalf of MARINA and Green Marine Copenhagen were administrator Sonia Malaluan and founder and chief executive officer Morten Jacobsen.

Under the three-year agreement, the MARINA and Green Marine Copenhagen will focus on five areas including regulatory frame work, technology adoption, training and human resource development, and research.

The Green Marine Copenhagen provides assistance in design, construction and operations of methanol-powered ships and also assisting shipowners, operators and shipyards in accelerating the transition to a methanol-powered maritime future.
