Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. (MRSGI) said Thursday it inaugurated a three-hectare distribution center in Santa Rosa City, Laguna.

The Metro Distribution Center, which spans a modern facility of three hectares, is dedicated to strengthening MRSGI’s supply chain and servicing its current network of stores, laying the groundwork for the company’s ambitious expansion plans in Luzon over the next five years.

MRSGI chief operating officer Manuel Alberto highlighted the distribution center’s role in MRSGI’s ambitious plan to expand its presence in Luzon, ensuring more communities have access to the quality services and products that Metro is known for, while also contributing to the local economy and providing employment opportunities.

“The significance of this new and modern warehouse transcends more than just logistics. It is the keystone of our ambitious plan to expand our Metro Store presence in Luzon, ensuring not only that more communities have access to the quality services and products that Metro is known for, but also for our company to keep, help, invigorate our local economy and provide employment,” Alberto said.

Several advanced features enhance the center’s functionality.

These include a selective racking system capable of accommodating pallets up to 5 and 7 high, with a total capacity of up to 20,000 pallet positions, optimizing storage efficiency and 20 inbound and outbound docking areas equipped with dock levelers, ensuring seamless loading and unloading operations.

It said that for security, it has more than 130 CCTV cameras and several laser beam smoke detectors, providing comprehensive safety for personnel and inventory.

The distribution center is equipped with solar panel-ready infrastructure, a sustainable initiative that aligns with MRSGI’s commitment to environmental responsibility while reducing its carbon footprint.

It can handle up to 25,000 cases daily for both inbound and outbound processes, resulting in a maximum throughput of 1.5 million cases monthly, which supports MRSGI’s extensive network of stores across Luzon and the Visayas.

The distribution center has ample room for future growth, with a designated expansion area within the 10-hectare property.

This provision allows MRSGI to accommodate both internal requirements and potential external partners, ensuring flexibility and scalability in its operations.
