The Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) and the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) signed Tuesday a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote and strengthen the ease of doing business (EODB) in the Philippines.

ARTA director-general Ernesto Perez said the agency is dedicated to improving the country’s bureaucratic efficiency.

“We believe that by working together with esteemed operations like the ECCP, we can unlock the full potential of the Philippines and contribute to the realization of a progressive ‘Bagong Pilipinas”, Perez said.

The MOU seeks cooperation from ECCP and its members to receive and endorse complaints from the business sector, the professionals and civil society organizations.

The ECCP will designate a focal person, certified by ARTA, to accept complaints and endorse the same to the agency.

The chamber will also assist ARTA in enhancing government initiatives through timely reporting of information related to fixing activities and other forms of red tape.

ECCP will also work with ARTA in raising the awareness of the business sector on EODB and undertake efforts towards values formation and moral transformation.

ARTA agreed to ensure that the complaints endorsed by ECCP are acted accordingly and promptly.

Perez said the agency would continue to push for the removal of unnecessary regulations and repeal unnecessary laws to pave the way for ease of doing business in the country.

ECCP president Paulo Duarte said endorsing concerns to ARTA would help ensure that the agency remains responsive to the needs of the business community.

“Through this partnership we aspire to be more active in advocating for ease of doing business in the Philippines and leveraging our platform to raise awareness among our members and partners,” he said.

“Moreover, we are committed to contributing to the growth and development of the Philippines by continuing to actively engage in cross and multi-sectoral initiatives and partnerships. This includes providing valuable policy recommendations and participating in stakeholder dialogues to foster dynamic and responsive regulatory environment,” Duarte said.
