The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to enhance the integrity of halal products in the Philippines.

The agreement aims to improve market surveillance and boost the competitiveness of the local halal industry through the establishment of DOST Halal Verification Laboratories (HVLs). These labs, planned for regions with significant Muslim populations, will utilize advanced testing methods to ensure products adhere to halal standards.

DOST, a member of the Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Board (PHEDPB), will collaborate with NCMF to implement the initiative. The agreement also mandates DOST to assist in upgrading facilities and institutions involved in halal research and development.

“This MOA marks a significant step in strengthening the Philippine halal industry,” said DOST Secretary Dr. Renato Solidum. “By ensuring product quality and integrity, we can promote consumer confidence and expand market opportunities for local halal businesses.”

The signing ceremony, held at the Dusit Thani Hotel Manila, was attended by officials from both agencies, including NCMF Secretary Guilling Mamondiong.
