The National Union of Food Delivery Riders asked Grab Philippines to reinstate some of its suspended delivery riders as the ride-hailing app expressed willingness to address their concerns.

Hundreds of food delivery riders earlier held a unity ride in Quezon City in protest of the alleged unfair Grab policy.

The riders said Grab’s new fare per order was reduced to P35 from the previous P45, while the per kilometer compensation of P10 was reduced to P7.

The riders brought their predicament to Congress and the Senate. The National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) is now resolving the alleged illegal termination of the riders.

Sought for comment, Grab Philippines said they were aware of the concerns raised by some delivery partners following the recent restructuring of their earnings model.

“Our primary goal has always been to create a fair and sustainable environment, where partners are compensated for their efforts, especially considering the current macroeconomic changes,” Grab said.

“The new model was designed to address long-standing concerns about compensation for pick-up efforts and extended wait times, while also providing a guaranteed minimum fare to protect our partners’ earnings,” it said.

The company said it is committed to ensuring that all delivery-partners on the platform continue to earn above the minimum wage.

“To date, Grab’s current earning model provides the most competitive earning potential for its partners as compared to that offered by other delivery platforms, and many of our partners attest that their average income has either remained at par or has slightly increased following the implementation of the new earnings model,” Grab said.

“Grab remains committed to an open dialogue and are dedicated to understanding and addressing our delivery partners’ concerns,” it said.

“To that end, we are open to constructive discussions with representatives of our delivery partners to hear their feedback and collaboratively work on practical solutions that serve the best interests of our entire Grab community,” Grab said.
