BYD Philippines and AC Motors said Friday they will roll out more than 100 charging stations across the country in 2024 to support the Ayala Group’s aspiration to become the biggest electric vehicle (EV) vendor in the Philippines.

AC Motors chief executive Jamie Alfonso Zobel de Ayala said at the launch of the first BYD electric vehicle in the Philippines the company already has an existing network of 20 charging stations in Metro Manila.

“This number will grow every single month moving forward. Stations will be built in Ayala states, and with select partners nationwide. This is just the start of the journey. We are committed to expanding this charging network, delivering more EV products, and of course providing the best mobility experience for all,” he said.

“We remain committed to our goal of becoming the leading AV platforms in the Philippines in support, as well of the Philippine government’s own ambition of transforming half of all cars on the roads into electric vehicles, by 2040,” he said.

The automotive distribution company has existing charging stations in Vertis North, Trinoma, One Ayala, Greenbelt and Seda BGC.

AC Motor assured all EV owners of the continued free use of charging stations in all Ayala malls and estates until year-end, signaling the start of a new ecosystem in the automotive industry.

‘We at AC Motors want to deliver the mobility experience that Filipino consumers deserve. This is the product that the modern Filipino consumer has been asking for.  We want to provide you with products that let you go further, faster, within an ecosystem that is reliable and affordable,” Zobel de Ayala said.

BYD and AC Motors launched BYD’s flagship EV model, the Atto 3 full-electric sedan, on Friday.

Atto 3 is the first of several new models from BYD that AC Motor would bring to the Philippines.

AC Motors also committed to providing the right infrastructure in different formats. AC Motors together with BYD will develop 13 to 14 dealerships in all major centers in the Philippines.

“We’re trying to have at least 5 [dealerships] operational—four in Metro Manila and one in Pampanga. And by next year, we are looking at a total of 19 outlets. We’ll have outlets in Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Iloilo and Davao,” said AC Motors president Toti Zara III.
