AirAsia Philippines initiated a program at Mactan-Cebu International Airport to highlight the importance of safety in airline operations.

The week-long Safety Day involved a walk-through inspection at the ramp to highlight the importance of foreign object debris (FOD) which can injure ground personnel or damage airplanes.

FODs include rocks, tools, equipment parts, trash and broken pavements, which can cause engine, tire, and structural damage.

AirAsia chief executive Ricky Isla said the safety of guests and airport personnel is their top priority, and the safety of aircraft and the airport is crucial for on-time [erformance (OTP).

“Our OTP is also highly dictated by the safety of our aircraft and the airport we are flying from and to. The FOD walk will help refresh the knowledge and expertise of our Allstars and other airport personnel in identifying even the smallest hazards that can affect all our operations,” he said.

Isla said the week-long Safety Day would also be extended at Terminals 2 and 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) where the airline operates domestic and international flights.

“We expect the influx of essential and leisure travelers flying for the long Undas vacation beginning next week. We are beefing up safety along with other existing pre-flight procedures to make our guests’ travel experience comfortable and seamless,” he said.
