Globe Telecom Inc. teamed with Pokémon Company and Niantic Inc. in a bid to entice subscribers to use mobile data.

“It would be good for us, as we have customer using the service. That’s good thing for us to form a revenue perspective,” Globe senior advisor for consumer business Dan Horan said.

Under the partnership, Globe has the right to place PokéStops and Gyms in malls all over the country and sell Pokemon merchandise and digital products.

Horan said Globe would work with partners such as Ayala Malls, Puregold, Robinsons Malls and SM Supermalls.

Globe said it would also ensure that customers had better accessibility to the app through different mobile offers.

Globe said under GoSURF50 mobile promo, customers would be able to access Pokémon Go as one of the free apps within the bundle. Globe customers can also download the free Pokémon Go promo on the Globe Switch app.

Globe’s mobile data revenues hit P17.8 billion in the first half, up by 46 percent from P12.1 billion a year earlier.

Data traffic rose 35 percent to 151 petabytes as of end-June from 112 petabytes a year ago, amid continuing increase in customer demand for bandwidth.

Globe, controlled by conglomerate Ayala Corp., said net income in the first half reached P8.97 billion in January to June, up 9 percent from P8.71 billion a year earlier.

Core net income, which excludes the impact of non- recurring charges, foreign exchange gains and mark-to-market charges, also increased 2 percent to P8.8 billion from a year ago.

Consolidated service revenue went up by 11 percent to P59.6 billion from P53.8 billion in the same period last year, as mobile revenues grew 3 percent to P45.7 billion from P44.5 billion.
